Upon graduation, Ronnie is accepted into college, at which he attends to study Law, but he soon withdraws to concentrate upon a potential career, singing and playing piano and other instruments, while blending various musical genres to attain his unique performance sound. One day, when an instructor beats a pupil in the classroom, Ronnie rises to his defense, and the teacher strikes him to the floor, causing injuries resulting in a blood clot behind his optic nerve, which, in turn, causes Ronnie Milsap the loss of the partial vision in his left eye, leaving him completely blind.
